Essential Workers

This week we conclude the August Sermon Series on Resistance. We have discussed the overwhelming forces that we find ourselves surrounded by. We have considered how sometimes the greatest strengths of empire are its greatest weaknesses; how sometimes our warnings go unheeded, but that we are called to give them anyways; how we must resist the temptation to bow down to the idols of empire. We considered the ministry of Jesus, and the way of the cross that he called us to; a way of non-violence yet no less a way of resistance.
This week we also celebrate the end of the summer with a federal holiday. We know that it is Labor Day, but do we pay much mind to why it is called that. This we we consider the words of the Apostle Paul, and the commendation to see the believers in Christ as a body. We have heard these words many times, but do we really consider what they mean for us, and for the ‘weaker’ members among us?

– What is the reason for commemorating ‘Labor Day’?
– What is Paul’s conclusion for the way we should care for the ‘weaker’ or ‘inferior’ members?
