Sermon Notes

By Rev. Preston Shealy

Scripture:
Psalm 4; 1 John 3:1-3, 11, 16-18
Theme:

“We are all children of God.”  “I am a child of God.”  These are two statements we are quick to affirm, but what do they really mean as we make decisions in life?  How should the knowledge that we are beloved children of God influence our decisions and words and actions as we live in this 2024 world?  Come join us as we explore what it really means to be a child of God.

Reflections:

Third Sunday of Easter

Introit: “God Be Gracious”, a paraphrase of Psalm 4; the first stanza which is taken from verse 1.

Opening Hymn: “To God Be the Glory”, an American gospel hymn written by Fanny Crosby; the first verse is very clearly tied the beginning of our scripture from 1 John 3.

Transition Hymn: For the month of April, “The Steadfast Love of the Lord” will be our transition hymn.

Special Music: “If Ye Love Me”, by Peter Neidmann.

Communion Hymn: “When at This Table”

Sending Hymn: A text which ties stewardship to faithful witness, and references the latter part of the scripture from 1 John 3.

Benediction: Throughout the Easter season, we will sing the first verse of “Christ Is Alive!” as our benediction.
