Our Hearts Burning
Sermon Notes
By Rev. AJ Ochart
Scripture:
Luke 24:13-35Sermon Notes
Last week, we heard from Luke’s gospel the surprising news that Jesus was no longer in the tomb! The women gathered to pay their last respects and found the tomb empty, and two men in dazzling clothes saying that he was raised. They returned to the eleven to bring this astonishing news, but they did not believe them. Peter went to investigate, confirmed that the tomb was empty, but perhaps filled with more questions than answers.
This week we hear about two other disciples, Cleopas and the other one, traveling to the nearby town of Emmaus. Along the way, they are accompanied on their journey by a stranger who talks with them about these events, and helps them to interpret the scriptures. It is only in the breaking of bread that they recognize him as SPOILER!
On our own spiritual paths, who are those that we meet along the way? How do they help us to see our scriptures and our own experience in a new light?
