Scripture:
John 20:19-23; Acts 2:1-21Theme:
It’s Pentecost! Jesus followers are together when all of a sudden there is the sound of a rush of a violent wind that filled the room where they gathered. The Spirit fills them and their lives will never be the same. Join us as we celebrate Pentecost and look at the implications of the presence of the Spirit on our lives while recognizing our 2024 high school graduates as they live out their journey of life and faith.

Reflections:
Pentecost
Introit: “Like the Murmur of the Dove’s Song”; a text written to fit a pre-existing tune. The three stanzas cluster around various themes, the first about how the spirit comes.
Opening Hymn: The narrative and interpretive text of “On Pentecost They Gathered”, was written in the 20th century to fill what the author perceived as an unfortunate gap in hymns about the Holy Spirit and Pentecost in particular.
Transition Hymn: For the month of May, we will sing “We Give Thanks unto You” as our Transition Hymn.
Special Music: “Psalm 150”, by Peter Anglea.
Responsive Hymn: Another 20th century text for Pentecost; the first two stanzas focus on the coming of the Holy Spirit to the early church, the third functions as a corporate prayer for the presence of the Spirit.
Sending Hymn: One of my favorite selections about the Spirit, “As the Wind Song”, written in the 21st century. The name of the tune is a Maori phrase meaning “Holy Spirit”.
Benediction: For Pentecost and the Sundays in June we will sing verses from “Go to the World!”, based on the Great Commission.
