Resistance I

Resistance I

Kingdom Bootcamp: Resistance Training

by the Rev. AJ Ochart

Ephesians 6:10-20

The sermon series for the month of August is on Resistance. Our scriptures were primarily written by and for those who were on the underside of power and history. They were written as a word of hope for those who faced overwhelming odds. The central figure of our Christian faith is someone who non-violently resisted the powers of his day and was executed for it, but the scandal of the gospel is the claim that this act of self-emptying was counter-intuitively the most powerful act ever taken. As followers of Jesus, we are called to take up our cross and to resist evil wherever we find it. We will take a look at some of the stories of resistance in our scriptures and consider the ways that they can encourage us in our own lives.

Brother Trey Austin will be preaching this week while I am out of town for my Mother-in-law’s memorial. He will be considering the famous ‘armor of God’ passage from Ephesians, and who our enemies actually are. Because is Trey is not currently ordained, we will postpone the celebration of the Lord’s Supper until the following week.

Questions to Consider

– What do you think about when you consider the idea of resistance?

– What do we struggle against?

– What are the tools that God gives us for this resistance?
