“Voices Long Silenced”
by the Rev. AJ Ochart
Acts 2:1-21, Philippians 4:4-7
Sermon Notes
This week we celebrate Pentecost, the day when the Holy Spirit was given to the early Church. On Pentecost the Spirit gave the believers the ability to speak different languages, and as a nod to that, we will hear liturgy in multiple languages. This is a way to celebrate the various cultures we come from, as well as a reminder that American or even English-speaking Christians are not the only (or even majority) of Christians in the world.
Questions to Consider
– Why would the Spirit give the ability to speak other languages?
– What is the author of Acts trying to tell us?
– What are we missing when we do not listen to other voices?
– What ‘voices long silenced’ have we been ignoring?
