“Divestment”
by the Rev. AJ Ochart
Sermon Notes
This week we continue through Paul’s letter to the Philippians with one of my all-time favorite passages, the Christ Hymn of Philippians 2. Paul encourages the believers in Philippi to imitate Jesus’ humility, and then goes into a beautiful poem that we believe may be one of the earliest Christian hymns. The beauty of this passage is almost overwhelming, as is the way that it calls us to reevaluate our motives and the motives of those that we follow.
Questions to Consider
– What does ‘equality with God’ mean, what does this say about the Christology of the writer?
– What does humility look like in Jesus’ life and story?
– What does humility look like today?
– When we consider our leaders, what humility (if any) do they show?
