Sermon Notes

Scripture:
1 John 5:1-6; John 15:9-17
Theme:

Our scriptures continue from those of last week, moving to 1 John 5, and on to the next passage of John 15. And it’s no surprise that the theme is still focused on love; the title of  Rev. Shealy’s sermon this Sunday is “No Greater Love”. John 15:2: “This is my commandment, that you love one another.”

Reflections:

Sixth Sunday of Easter

Introit: “Live in Charity”, which is based on the Latin hymn, “Ubi Caritas”.

Opening Hymn: Set to a tune that has been used with several English texts, “New Songs of Celebration Render” is a 20th century paraphrase of Psalm 98.

Transition Hymn: For the month of May, we will sing “We Give Thanks unto You” as our Transition Hymn.

Special Music: I will be singing and arrangement of “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, written by Jan Sanborn.

Communion Hymn: Our communion hymn for 2024 is “When at This Table”.

Sending Hymn: With reference to our scripture from John 15, the 20th century text of “Called as Partners in Christ’s Service” issues a challenge to live out a minitry of reconciliation and inclusion.

Benediction: Throughout the Easter season, we will sing the first verse of “Christ Is Alive!” as our benediction.
